Rostelecom acquires Svyazservis in Karelia

9 Oct 2019

Russian national operator Rostelecom has acquired Karelian regional telecoms provider Svyazservis, which trades under the brand. The transfer of subscribers to the Rostelecom brand will be carried out after completion of the retrofitting of the acquired network to provide subscribers with a full range of services from the Rostelecom product portfolio, ComNews reported. The cost of the acquisition was estimated at RUB200 million-RUB250 million (USD3.1 million-USD3.8 million).

The takeover – via Rostelecom’s Bashinformsvyaz subsidiary – strengthens the nationwide telco’s position in the Republic of Karelia. Svyazservis is reportedly the second largest telco in Karelia after Rostelecom with at least 30% of residential subscribers, and operates a 400km fibre-optic network.
