Telia trialling 5G in Estonia for fixed replacement services

11 Jul 2019

Estonian fixed and mobile operator Telia Eesti says it is trialling home broadband and pay-TV services over 5G wireless networks. The firm has achieved download speeds of around 1Gbps from a real-world test site in Tabasalu. Operators in Estonia had hoped to be among the first in the world to launch commercial 5G networks, but licensing in the 3.6GHz band has been delayed by legal action begun by IoT and wireless internet provider Levikom which has challenged the decision to only award three concessions, saying that it favours the three existing players and will hamper competition.
