Baktelecom expands fibre network in Baku

10 Jul 2019

State-owned Baku Telephone Communication (also known as Baktelecom) has connected 24,000 apartments in the Yasamal, Khatai, Nizami, Sabunchu and Garadagh districts of Baku during the last three months, the company has announced. The existing copper lines were replaced as part of the second phase of the company’s ‘Fiber to the Home’ project.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Baktelecom’s GPON fibre network covered around 40,000 households in the first quarter of 2019, with around 5,000 apartments already using the service. The firm plans to extend its reach to 100,000 households by the end of the year.
