KPN deploys GPON in Zeeland

Following its announcement in March of its upcoming GPON technology rollout with Nokia, Dutch telco KPN has disclosed that GPON-based Wholesale Broadband Access (WBA)/Virtual Unbundled Local Access (VULA) fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) services will be available to wholesale customers in its first area of GPON deployment, Yerseke (in Zeeland province), on 29 August 2019. The service incorporates a new type of Optical Network Termination (ONT). KPN is intending to use GPON in all its new FTTH area deployments across the Netherlands from Q4 2019 onwards.
