Kuwaiti watchdog: 3.5GHz 5G networks to go live in June

29 May 2019

Salem Al-Ozainah, the chairman and CEO of the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority (CITRA), has announced that the Kuwaiti watchdog has now completed its 5G ‘pilot operation’, paving the way for the country’s mobile operators to launch commercial 5G services by mid-June. The regulator adds that it has made the 3.5GHz band available for 5G use.

In a parallel press release, Zain Kuwait – the country’s largest mobile operator by subscribers – thanked the regulator for its ‘decision to grant 5G technology licences’ and confirmed that ‘its network is fully ready for the commercial launch of fifth-generation wireless technology’. Zain adds that its 5G network will be capable of delivering ‘nationwide coverage of all areas’.
