European Court of Justice rejects KPN appeal on VodafoneZiggo merger

28 May 2019

The European Court of Justice has upheld the European Commission’s approval of the 2016 merger of cellco Vodafone Netherlands and Dutch cableco Ziggo to form quadruple-play operator VodafoneZiggo, rejecting a complaint filed against the decision by rival Dutch telco KPN. The final court ruling found that the merger of Vodafone Group and Liberty Global’s respective operations did not conflict with market competition rules. KPN was ordered to pay costs for the court case.
