Romania surpasses 10m 4G subscribers

Romania’s telecoms regulator, the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM), has announced that 4G connections accounted for 51% of the total mobile market in 2018, following a 27% rise in 4G subscribers to 10.1 million. The number of fixed internet connections rose 7% last year to 5.1 million, while connections offering download speeds of at least 100Mbps grew 16% and now represent 69% of the market. The fixed internet penetration rate stood at 62% in 2018 following 13% annual growth in rural areas and a 4% increase in urban connections. Around 40% of rural internet connections enable speeds of above 100Mbps.
