Mozambique’s TMCEL signs contract with Huawei

Mocambique Telecom (TMCEL), the state-backed fixed and mobile operator in Mozambique, has signed an equipment contract with Chinese vendor Huawei. Under the initial phase of the deal, TMCEL will spend USD23 million of its own capital on network upgrade work. This will come as part of a USD153 million investment project, AIM reports. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, TMCEL is the second largest operator in the country’s mobile sector where it competes with market leader Vodacom and third-placed Movitel.
