Mobile operator MTN Ghana has budgeted USD160 million this year to improve its network and IT systems, including deployment of ‘900 4G LTE sites, 277 3G sites and 450 2G sites’, reports quoting CEO Selorm Adadevoh. The executive also highlighted the upcoming launch of the MTN ‘TurboNet’ plug-and-play 4G internet router equipped with high-powered external antenna which can connect up to 32 devices simultaneously, as well as the ‘KaiOs smart feature phone’ (aimed at budget mobile broadband access).

Last month MTN Ghana activated its ‘4G+’ service based on LTE-A carrier aggregation technology, disclosing that it currently operated 1,226 4G LTE sites of which 625 were LTE-A enabled.
