VodafoneZiggo, Ericsson test 5G in Eindhoven

1 Apr 2019

VodafoneZiggo and its network partner Ericsson have signed a ‘letter of intent’ with Eindhoven’s city authorities to launch a 5G pilot service using the 3.5GHz frequency band in the second half of this year. An announcement on the Dutch operator’s website says that residents, students, start-ups and businesses will be able to use 5G-enabled new applications in a number of test locations in the city. According to VodafoneZiggo CEO Jeroen Hoencamp, users will gain access to ‘genuine 5G’, ‘providing value to people and society with the pilots’ whilst enabling the operator to ‘gain practical experience’. VodafoneZiggo has been issued a temporary regional 3.5GHz licence for the 5G pilot.
