Vodafone Portugal stages 3.6GHz 5G trial in Lisbon

1 Apr 2019

Vodafone Portugal has successfully tested 5G technology in Lisbon, using a block of 3.6GHz spectrum that has been temporarily issued by the National Communications Authority (Autoridade Nacional de Comunicacoes, ANACOM). The 5G antenna – deployed by vendor partner Ericsson – is located at the telco’s headquarters in Lisbon’s Parque das Nacoes, and its 5G Hub innovation centre will be made available to companies, universities and start-ups who wish to test their respective designs. Going forward, Vodafone seeks to install additional 5G antennas between Lisbon and Porto by the end of the year, ahead of an anticipated 2020 commercial launch.
