Somtel set to roll out LTE-A

28 Mar 2019

Somaliland-based telecoms firm Somtel is rolling out LTE-A technology to enable it to offer maximum speeds of 150Mbps, reports Radio Dalsan. The network will initially cover 40 sites across the country, before being expanded to cover an additional 45 sites in major towns and cities. The announcement follows on from the launch of 3.5G DC-HSPA+ services last month.

Somtel, which is part of the Dahabshiil Group, announced the commercial launch of 4G services in parts of Somaliland in November 2014. Since then, the network has been expanded to the Puntland region and parts of south-central Somalia, including Mogadishu.
