State-owned full-service provider Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and its mobile division Pakistan Telecommunications Mobile Limited (PTML) – which operates under the Ufone brand – have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with infrastructure provider edotco to enhance connectivity capabilities. According to PTCL, the partnership will see the parties collaborate on infrastructure development, with a view to meeting the ‘exponential data growth and usage requirement in the country’. Areas of cooperation are to include energy management, fiberisation and modernisation of structures, the telco added.
In a related development, wireless provider Jazz has reportedly launched LTE on the 900MHz band in Islamabad, referring to the upgrade as ‘L900’. Local news outlets cite Chief Commercial Officer Asif Aziz as saying that the new carrier would meet growing consumer demand for data. The spokesperson also claimed that the rollout put Jazz into the ‘elite LTE-A/4G+ operators’ group,’ but it has not yet been confirmed that the cellco has deployed a true LTE-A upgrade. CTO Khalid Shehzad, meanwhile, was quoted as saying: ‘Through this new LTE carrier, subscribers will enjoy a faster mobile network and more advanced technology. This move improves our LTE coverage significantly, which means our subscribers can enjoy superior data experience in indoor locations.’
