MIC agrees to sell Chad division to Maroc Telecom

15 Mar 2019

Millicom International Cellular (MIC) has signed an agreement for the sale of its Chadian division, Tigo Chad, to Morocco’s Maroc Telecom. Details of the transaction have not been disclosed, and completion is subject to approval from Chad’s regulatory authorities. Both groups noted that the deal was in line with their overall strategies, with MIC looking to increase its focus on Latin America whilst Maroc Telecom ‘aims to expand and consolidate [its] presence in the region’.

As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Tigo Chad served 3.28 million mobile subscribers at end-December 2018, representing roughly half of the wireless market.
