Vodafone Ghana to launch 4G soon

13 Mar 2019

Vodafone Ghana is preparing to roll out 4G services shortly, after it was awarded LTE-suitable spectrum in the 800MHz band in January 2019. Vodafone is understood to be in the final stages of its rollout preparations, with commercial services expected to commence in March-April. Vodafone Ghana’s CEO Yolanda Cuba disclosed that the company has rolled out 200 LTE sites across the country.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, in January this year Vodafone secured 2×5MHz of spectrum in the 800MHz band with a bid of USD30 million, in a frequency tender process which began in September 2018. The National Communications Authority (NCA) revealed at that date that ‘two companies submitted applications, with Vodafone emerging as the only successful applicant’.
