KPN preparing G-PON, XGS-PON rollouts with Nokia

1 Mar 2019

Dutch telco KPN has signed an agreement with Nokia for deployment of PON technology in the context of its accelerated rollout of fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) to an additional one million households in the next three years. KPN’s announcement on its website says that it has started preparatory work to introduce G-PON into the network, becoming available in the second half of 2019 with 1Gbps access speeds, whilst at the same time the network is being prepared to ‘easily make the next step’ to XGS-PON enabling symmetrical download/upload speeds of up to 10Gbps.
