Telenor Pakistan deploys Nokia AirScale Cloud RAN

15 Feb 2019

Telenor Pakistan has deployed Nokia’s AirScale Cloud RAN solution, including AirScale Base Station Controller (BSC) and AirScale Radio Network Controller (RNC) on AirFrame cloud infrastructure. A press release says that the ‘5G-ready’ solution reduces network complexity and costs, allowing Telenor to ‘provide innovative services more cost effectively’, claiming that ‘the added agility that this software delivers will enhance efficiency, and prepare [Telenor] for 5G’.

Khurrum Ashfaque, CTO, Telenor Pakistan, said: ‘Together with Nokia’s cloud solutions, we are well on our way to accelerating digital transformation. We will have added flexibility to scale the radio network resources based on demand as well as greater agility, which is critical as a significant percentage of our subscribers continue to use 2G and 3G services.’ Adil Munir Malik, Country Senior Officer for Pakistan at Nokia, added: ‘Our cloud-based solutions will benefit Telenor Pakistan through virtualisation, bringing down the operational cost and allowing them to scale quickly in line with market demands.’
