Telia Finland has announced that it is to stop offering fixed voice services this year, citing the steady decline in the number of subscriptions to such services as the reason. The telco has said that it will encourage existing subscribers to switch to a mobile voice alternative ahead of the termination – the phasing out of its fixed voice services will start from ‘summer 2019’ – and highlighted the fact that it now has 99.9% coverage for its wireless infrastructure. In a press release regarding the development, Telia Finland’s technology direct Jari Collin noted that the operator will reach out to customers and offer them alternative services, while it also intends to hold local events in those cities where it has the highest number of fixed voice subscribers.
