Altice Portugal inks 5G contract with Huawei; targets 2019 launch

Altice Portugal – which trades as MEO – has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Chinese vendor Huawei committing to the development and implementation of 5G services in Portugal. Under the plan – which represents an evolution of the Portuguese firm’s Huawei-built 4G network – the partners will explore new and innovative applications using 5G technology in a live testing network environment. According to the press release, Altice expects to launch commercial 5G services in Portugal in 2019. Altice Portugal CEO Alexandre Fonseca said: ‘We are delighted to partner with Huawei to further drive forward the development of 5G services in Portugal.’
