Avonet says 1.5m Czech homes can now access ultrafast broadband thanks to CETIN deal

2 Nov 2018

Avonet, the Czech ISP that was founded in 1996 in Luhacovice and today offers a range of broadband plans to homes and businesses across the Republic, says it has improved its product portfolio thanks to a further tie-up with national infrastructure provider Ceska telekomunikacni infrastruktura (CETIN). Avonet says that as a result, it can now offer 600,000 households (covering towns and major cities) peak xDSL speeds of up to 100Mbps, while a further 900,000 residences can take advantage of its 50Mbps service. Furthermore, the ISP says that it will continue to accelerate maximum speeds across its footprint and by end-2019 hopes to have AVONET DSL blanketing 80% of the 3.8 million homes currently served by CETIN – which is part of Petr Kellner’s PPF Group that was spun off from incumbent PTO O2 Czech Republic in June 2015 – while some two million of those will be able to access its premium 100Mbps service. AVONET DSL prices, meanwhile, start from CZK349 (USD11.9) per month.

Avonet claims to provide internet connection throughout the Czech Republic. It uses a combination of its own infrastructure (fibre-optic, copper wire, wireless) as well as the networks of other operators (e.g. CETIN). Since 2003, the ISP’s xDSL plans have been providing a nationwide service, including the option of SHDSL symmetrical circuits. In 2016 the company expanded its offer of symmetrical connections up to 300Mbps, while from 2017 it has also offered internet access based on LTE technology. In the Zlin Region Avonet claims to operate an extensive optical network with more than 15,000 connections for businesses and households and more than 120 wireless network access points.
