Canadian quad-play operator Rogers Communications’ total revenue grew 3% year-on-year to CAD3.769 billion (USD2.875 billion) in the third quarter of 2018, driven largely by 5% growth in mobile services turnover, whilst cable revenue inched up by 1%. EBITDA jumped 8% to CAD1.620 billion and net income improved by 17% to CAD594 million in July-September. Joe Natale, Rogers’ CEO, announced: ‘In Wireless, we delivered excellent financials and the best Q3 post-paid churn [1.09%] in nine years. In residential, we delivered solid internet growth and launched our market awareness campaign for Ignite TV, our world-class all-IPTV service … Given our strong year to date performance, we are raising our full-year guidance.’
Rogers’ total post-paid mobile subscribers increased by 206,000 y-o-y to 9.045 million at 30 September 2018, while pre-paid users dropped by 21,000 in the same period to 1.765 million. Blended monthly mobile ARPU (excluding device costs) reached CAD57.2 in Q3 2018, up from CAD55.8 in 3Q17, whilst average billing per user (ABPU, including device costs) rose to CAD66.2 (CAD63.8). Total cable internet subscribers stood at 2.405 million at end-September, up by 104,000 (restated) in twelve months, as TV customers fell 52,000 to 1.701 million. Fixed telephony subscriptions grew by 21,000 to 1.120 million.
