Airtel maps out expansion plans

Former mobile market leader Bharti Airtel has announced plans to deploy 13,000 new mobile sites and 4,500km of fibre-optic cabling in Karnataka by March 2019. The Economic Times reports that the network upgrade will also see the company deploy Massive MIMO in major business and residential areas of the region. Airtel is currently active in 39,000 towns and villages across the state and claims to have 98% population coverage via its 4G network. Meanwhile, the company has also unveiled plans to install 6,650kms of fibre and 17,313 new mobile sites in Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand – also by March 2019.
