MTC alters national frequency allocation plan

3 Sep 2018

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (Ministerio de Transportes y Comunicaciones, MTC) has published resolution No. 687-2018-MTC / 01.03 modifying the national frequency allocation plan to promote the use of radio frequency spectrum for new services and technologies, including 5G. The regulations state that allocation of spectrum required for public telecommunications services outside of Lima and Callao shall be allocated via a public tenders. Similarly, and with a view to improving transparency, requests for frequency allocations will be published on the MTC’s portal to allow other interested parties to submit their observations and comments to the ministry prior to the MTC making a decision.

The resolution also looks to optimise the use of frequency bands and rearranged the following ranges, reserving the spectrum for advanced mobile services: 452.5MHz-457.5MHz/462.5MHz-467.5MHz; 806MHz-821MHz/851MHz-866MHz; 2500MHz-2692MHz; 2300MHz-2400MHz; and 3400MHz-3600MHz.
