8 Aug 2018

Irish wholesale broadband provider SIRO has confirmed that its network is now live in 30 towns across the country, with ten operators able to offer services to more than 175,000 premises, and some 25,000 homes and businesses currently connected to the infrastructure. Looking ahead, SIRO has also confirmed that it expects to pass an additional 50,000 premises before the end of this year, to bring its total footprint to 225,000. This coverage announcement was made alongside SIRO disclosing the next ten locations where it expects to make its full-fibre-based services available, namely: Balbriggan, Killarney, Clonmel, Mallow, Shannon, Swords, Ongar, Tyrellstown, Finglas and Clane.

Using the existing infrastructure of Irish utility firm Electricity Supply Board (ESB), SIRO offers fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) connectivity with maximum download and upload speeds of 1Gbps. The company – a joint venture between ESB and Vodafone Group – offers its services on an open-access basis to all telecoms retailers in Ireland and to date has formed partnerships with: Vodafone Ireland, Digiweb, Sky Ireland, BT Ireland, Carnsore Broadband, Rocket Broadband, Kerry Broadband, eNet, Airwire and WestNet.
