Pakistan’s anti-corruption agency the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has launched an investigation into the allocation of 3G and 4G licences in 2014, following allegations that the award was illegal and had led to substantial losses to the state. The agency is reportedly looking into allegations that senior government and regulatory officials affected in the process. As noted by TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Pakistan made several attempts to issue the Next Generation Mobile Service (NGMS) licences in the years leading up to April 2014, with processes in 2012 and 2013 being derailed by suspicions of corruption.
