Albania launches 800MHz licence tender

16 Jul 2018

Albania’s Electronic and Postal Communications Authority (Autoritetit Te Komunikimeve Elektronike Dhe Postare, AKEP) has issued a tender for 4G LTE-suitable 800MHz mobile operating licences. Under a decision taken on 5 July, AKEP is offering three 2×10MHz concessions in the 790MHz-862MHz band with duration of 15 years and a minimum bid value per-licence of EUR7.44 million (USD8.69 million). The deadline for submission of bids is 27 September. According to an announcement on AKEP’s website, 800MHz licence winners should begin utilising the frequencies within two months of individual licence authorisation.

TeleGeography notes that the three main Albanian mobile operators – Vodafone, Telekom Albania and ALBtelecom – currently utilise the 1800MHz and 2600MHz bands for their 4G LTE services.
