Shaw doubles cable broadband speed to 300Mbps

13 Jul 2018

Canada’s Shaw Communications has launched 300Mbps (download) cable broadband internet packages for residential and business customers, doubling its previous top speed. Shaw’s new packages – with unlimited (fair usage policy) monthly data volume – are available to 93% of users within its network footprint, with the enhanced speeds made possible ‘through significant network improvements and the implementation of DOCSIS 3.1 technology’, its press release stated. The ‘Internet 300’ package includes the ‘Advanced WiFi’ modem, which supports more devices with a stronger in-home connection. Shaw president Jay Mehr said: ‘Canadian homes are equipped with … multiple smartphones, laptops and tablets of all sizes and smart TVs … As our homes continue to become more connected, our customers will need ultra-fast internet to support this change.’

For B2B users Shaw now offers ‘Business Internet 300’ and ‘SmartWiFi 300’, the latter package including an enterprise-grade Wi-Fi solution, with options to bundle in Shaw’s managed network security (SmartSecurity) and surveillance (SmartSurveillance) solutions.
