Viva Kuwait has joined its two mobile rivals Zain and Ooredoo this week in announcing the start of 5G technology deployment on its network, although in similar fashion to its competitors the Saudi-backed cellco did not include any information on commercial launch scheduling or the availability of devices supporting the new platform, saying simply that ‘full-fledged services to customers will be offered upon receiving the regulatory approvals’. Viva did, however, claim a coup over Zain and Ooredoo, by enabling media representatives and members of the public to interact with 5G applications including ultra-high speed internet access, virtual reality gaming, ultra-low latency drone control and video streaming at a launching ceremony.
