Indotel suspends AWS spectrum sale

15 May 2018

The Dominican Telecommunications Institute (Instituto Dominicano de las Telecomunicaciones, Indotel) has announced that it has suspended plans to sell unused spectrum in the AWS band after concerns were raised over the transparency of the sale process. Specifically, a company identified as Servicios Ampliados de Telefonos (SATEL) has laid claim to the spectrum in question, preventing its sale while a full investigation is carried out.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, earlier this month Trilogy Dominicana (trading as Viva) offered to pay USD30 million for frequencies in the 1710MHz-1720MHz/2110MHz-2120MHz and 1730MHz-1735MHz/2130MHz-2135MHz bands, and submitted 10% of the final offer as a guarantee.
