TDM and mCel to complete merger this year

9 May 2018

Mozambique’s Institute for the Management of State Holdings (Instituto de Gestao das Participacoes do Estado, IGEPE) says it expects the merger of national fixed line telco Telecomunicacoes de Mocambique (TDM) and its wireless subsidiary mCel to be completed by the end of this year. Plans for the consolidation were first announced in 2016 with a view to helping to cut costs and also enabling the enlarged operator to market a range of converged fixed-mobile products. A report from AllAfrica says the government does not foresee any redundancies coming as a result of the merger.
