Brazilian full-service telecoms provider Oi has disclosed plans to launch LTE-A technology in July, with initial coverage of Salvador (in Bahia) and Fortaleza (Ceara). Going forward, the telco aims to cover 26 municipalities with LTE-A by year-end, including the likes of Joao Pessoa (Paraiba), Natal (Rio Grande del Norte), Sao Luis (Maranhao), Palmas (Tocantins) and Belem (Para). According to TeleSintese, the new network aggregates 1800MHz and 2.5GHz 4G spectrum. Oi’s networks have been upgraded by vendor trio Ericsson, Huawei and Nokia, the news site notes.
