Merger of SWAN and BENESTRA gets green light

4 Apr 2018

Slovakia’s Antimonopoly Office has approved the merger of local telcos SWAN and BENESTRA after a seven-month review of the proposed tie-up. The merger, which was first announced in May last year, will create the largest domestically-owned operator in the country, competing against Deutsche Telekom-backed Slovak Telekom, Orange Slovensko and O2 Slovakia. While SWAN’s focus in the fixed line sector is predominantly on residential users, BENESTRA concentrates on the business market. SWAN is also active in the cellular market via SWAN Mobile, which trades under the ‘4ka’ brand.

SWAN chairman and co-owner Juraj Ondris commented: ‘The merger of SWAN and BENESTRA is an important milestone in the consolidation of the Slovak telecommunications market and contributes significantly to our efforts to create a convergent Slovak operator capable of the range of services to fully compete with the foreign troika.’
