TPG has deployed cell sites in Sydney, Melbourne

20 Mar 2018

TPG Telecom, the alternative Australian fixed line operator which acquired wireless spectrum in December 2017, has provided an update on its mobile network rollout in Australia, noting that it has installed cell sites in Sydney and Melbourne. TPG’s AUD1.9 billion (USD1.5 billion) network is expected to be complete across Sydney, Melbourne, and Canberra by mid-2018, with the telco adding that it intends to implement a new small cell deployment programme, which will help it to deliver 5G services in the future. TPG currently operates as an MVNO in Australia, claiming 278,000 TPG-branded subscribers at 31 December 2017, alongside 143,000 iiNet customers.

TeleGeography notes that the telco spent AUD594.8 million on 700MHz spectrum in the multi-band auction staged by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) in December 2017.
