KZK examining SBB’s recent price increase

29 Jan 2018

Serbia’s Commission for the Protection of Competition (Komisija za Zastitu Konkurencije, KZK) is reportedly conducting a review to determine if Serbia Broadband (SBB) has abused its dominant market position. According to Broadband TV News, which cites reports from Russian news agency Novosti. the competition watchdog is examining retail price increases made by the fixed broadband provider this month to determine whether they are justified. As previously reported by CommsUpdate, in return for regulatory approval for its acquisition of cable-based, triple-play provider Interaktivne Kablovske Objedinjene Mreze (IKOM), in March 2017 it was confirmed that for two years following the takeover SBB is obliged to provide regular reporting to the watchdog on changes in retail prices for media content services provided by its basic package. Should the KZK conclude that the recent price hike is unjustified, it is understood it could fine SBB up to 10% of its annual income.
