MTN Rwanda is to utilise 900MHz UMTS technology to expand its 3G service coverage. The firm currently uses the 900MHz band to provide 2G services and says that all of its 2G base stations will now also support 3G technology. Kigali Today reports that MTN is expecting to invest USD20 million in the upgrade. MTN is set to lose its top spot in Rwanda’s mobile market when smaller rivals Tigo and Airtel complete their merger, which was approved by regulators earlier this week.
