Viya extends LTE to Saint John

23 Jan 2018

Viya, the US Virgin Islands-based telecoms operator formed via the merger of Innovative Telephone and Choice Wireless in April 2017, has launched its new 4G LTE network on the island of Saint John. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, the network went live on Saint Croix and Saint Thomas – the two largest islands that make up the unincorporated US territory – on 27 November last year.

In related news, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has reported that as of 22 January 12.8% of cell sites on the USVI remained out of service, following the devastating Category 5 storm Hurricane Maria in September 2017. 92.0% of cell sites have now been restored on neighbouring Puerto Rico, the watchdog notes.
