Vodafone Ukraine, wholly owned by Mobile TeleSystems (MTS), said on 19 January that it restored communications on its mobile network in the eastern separatist-occupied region of Luhansk, following the fibre backbone cable break on 11 January. However, the occupied Donetsk region remained entirely without Vodafone service, Liga.net reported. A Vodafone Ukraine spokesperson stated: ‘In the Donetsk region the network does not work for reasons unknown to us. There is a possibility that the equipment is out of order or there is no electricity supply.’
