Zimbabwe’s Econet Wireless says it is looking to deploy 2,000 public Wi-Fi zones and in-vehicle Wi-Fi hotspots this year. The cellco and ISP currently offers Wi-Fi at 570 sites, including on some commuter bus services and in public areas in cities and towns. NewsDay reports that Econet is aiming to extend its reach by adding connectivity on long-distance bus services and tour vehicles, as well as additional commuter buses and outdoor locations. Econet says it is attracting around 40,000 unique users each day on its commuter bus Wi-Fi services, accounting for between 5% and 10% of its overall Wi-Fi traffic.
