ENACOM approves Claro, Movistar pay-TV plans

9 Jan 2018

Argentina’s National Entity for Communications (Ente Nacional de Comunicaciones, ENACOM) has confirmed that it has authorised mobile duo Claro and Movistar to enter the country’s pay-TV sector. As per a press release issued on 5 January, Claro has been awarded a ‘Servicios de Radiodifusion por Suscripcion’ (Subscription Broadcasting Services) concession covering Hurlingham, Moron, Tres de Febrero and Vicente Lopez (all Greater Buenos Aires), alongside Salta in the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires (Ciudad Autonoma de Buenos Aires, CABA). Movistar, meanwhile, has been granted a ‘Registro de Cable’ (Cable Registration) licence covering Buenos Aires, Godoy Cruz, Guaymayen, Lujan de Cuyo and Mendoza.

As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, ENACOM’s December 2017 decision to approve the merger between Telecom Argentina and Cablevision included permission for the enlarged operator to launch pay-TV in the Area Metropolitana Buenos Aires (AMBA), Rosario and Cordoba.
