Netherlands fixed and mobile operator VodafoneZiggo has announced that it is to switch off its 3G mobile network in January 2020 in order to concentrate on the development of 4G and future 5G technologies. The firm says it will work to remove the final gaps in coverage of its 4G network, which currently reaches around 99% of the population, though it adds that its 2G network – with a virtually nationwide footprint – will remain in service beyond 2020 for voice calls.
