Telekom, EWE plan fibre joint venture?

4 Dec 2017

Telekom Deutschland, the domestic fixed and mobile operating unit of Deutsche Telekom (DT), is reportedly planning to establish a joint venture with regional operator EWE for the deployment of fibre-optic access networks. Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung writes that the potential cooperation between the two companies aims to connect more than one million homes and apartments to fibre infrastructure. The newspaper cites industry sources as saying that each operator would own a 50% stake in the joint venture, which would also open up its networks to third party service providers. The report adds that Telekom and EWE are expected to finalise the joint venture agreement within the coming weeks.
