Spain to auction 1.5GHz, 3.6GHz bands for 5G

4 Dec 2017

Spain’s Ministry of Energy, Tourism and Digital Agenda (Ministerio de Energia, Turismo y Agenda Digital, MINETAD) has announced plans to ‘promote the development and deployment of 5G technology’ via the auction of spectrum in the 1452MHz-1492MHz (‘1.5GHz’) and 3600MHz-3800MHz (‘3.6GHz’) bands in early 2018. The auction process will form part of the government’s ‘Plan Nacional 5G’, and is said to be ‘fully compatible’ with the EU’s roadmap for the deployment of 5G networks.
