Airtel Madagascar launches LTE service

21 Nov 2017

Airtel Madagascar, the local Malagasy unit of India-based Bharti Airtel, has launched a 4G LTE mobile network, writes Agence Ecofin. Despite being Madagascar’s largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers, Airtel is the last of the three major cellcos to launch 4G, after Telecom Malagasy in June 2015 and Orange in March 2017.

According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, Airtel Madagascar launched a 3.5G W-CDMA HSPA+ mobile network in July 2012 and until now this has been the company’s most advanced mobile technology in Madagascar.
