Telia Norge inks dark fibre deal with Eidsiva Breadband

17 Nov 2017

Telia Norge has inked a deal with Eidsiva Bredband which it claims will enable it to enhance its network quality and capacity, while also increasing the robustness of its infrastructure as it continues to make preparations for 5G services.

In the first phase of rollout Eidsiva will supply Telia with dark fibre to base stations in Gjovik, Hamar, Lillehammer, Elverum and Kongsvinge, while a secondary phase will see such connectivity expanded to other areas in Hedmark, Oppland and Upper Romerike.

In announcing the deal Telia noted that, by partnering with Eidsiva, it will reduce its dependence on the network belonging to fixed line incumbent Telenor Norge, a strategy which it said is in line with recommendations made by the likes of local telecoms regulator the National Communications Authority (Nasjonal kommunikasjonsmyndighet, Nkom).
