Airtel, Tigo merge in Ghana to form AirtelTigo

Bharti Airtel-owned Airtel Ghana and Millicom International Cellular (MIC)-backed Tigo Ghana have announced their new combined operation will be named AirtelTigo, writes Reuters. As previously reported by TeleGeography’s CommsUpdate, the National Communications Authority (NCA) approved the merger last month and the deal will see AirtelTigo become the second largest mobile network operator (MNO) by subscribers in Ghana behind market leader MTN Ghana. AirtelTigo will serve around ten million subscribers with revenues close to USD300 million, it is reported.
