The Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) plans to hold auctions for spectrum in the 700MHz and 2600MHz frequency bands, in a bid to boost the availability of high speed internet services across the country. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) cites the NCC’s Executive Vice Chairman Umar Danbatta as saying that the process for new spectrum auctions and assignments, including the re-farming of existing allocations, is ongoing. ‘We will auction the 2.5GHz/2.6GHz spectrum for 4G LTE capacity requirements… The commission will also auction the 700MHz band, once available, for 4G LTE coverage requirements and will open up and assign other spectrum bands in an open and transparent manner,’ he said.
