T-Mobile US extends LTE-A to 920 markets; ‘Gigabit Class’ LTE now in 430 locations

10 Nov 2017

T-Mobile US has announced that its LTE-A network is now available in more than 920 markets. Further, at a media event staged at the San Jose Convention Center, the cellco teamed up with Qualcomm Technologies to demonstrate so-called ‘Gigabit Class LTE’ technology. The latter platform – which utilises carrier aggregation (CA), 4X4 MIMO and 256 QAM technology – is available in 430 of those markets. Going forward, T-Mobile has also unveiled plans to launch LTE-Licence Assisted Access (LTE-LAA) – which leverages unlicensed spectrum – on small cells by end-2017 to further densify its network and boost capacity and speed.
