Ukraine’s 2600MHz auction set for Jan-18; regulator indicates possible earlier 1800MHz auction

8 Nov 2017

Ukraine’s National Commission for State Regulation of Communications and Informatization (NCCIR) has set the date for the country’s 4G LTE mobile licence auction in the 2600MHz frequency range as 23 January 2018. 2600MHz bid applications will be accepted from 13 November 2017 to 22 December 2018. The licences on offer include 2×80MHz of nationwide spectrum recently returned to the regulator by MMDS Ukraine.

An 1800MHz LTE (technology-neutral) spectrum licence auction had previously been scheduled to take place soon after the 2600MHz contest, but the NCCIR indicated in its latest notice that there are new proposals afoot to launch the 1800MHz contest in December 2017, ‘in connection with the receipt of official statements from telecommunication operators’, and the watchdog is now ‘considering the issue’.
