Govt instructs PTA to trial 5G before 2020

27 Oct 2017

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has been instructed to begin the process of conducting 5G tests in Pakistan before 2020, when the as-yet-undefined technology is expected to be ready for commercial launch. The Gulf Today writes that the federal cabinet has approved the launch of 5G and directed the watchdog to initiate trials of the platform. Pakistan’s Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) is aiming to introduce 5G services before 2020, the nation having been one of the last major economies worldwide to introduce 3G/4G services; Pakistan’s first 3G and 4G networks were switched on in May and September 2014, respectively.
