The Swedish Post and Telecom Agency (Post & Telestyrelsen, PTS) has updated its preliminary study for the allocation of spectrum in the 700MHz band, proposing a reduction in the portion of the spectrum to be allocated for mobile broadband services by 20MHz. The revision was prompted by the government’s decision to allocate 2×10MHz in the band for TV broadcasting until 31 December 2018. All interested parties are invited to submit their comments on the new proposal by 15 November.
According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms Database, the government had ordered that the 700MHz (694MHz-790MHz) band be relinquished by terrestrial television broadcasters by April 2017, though in November last year the PTS cancelled the tender, following concerns raised by the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB) about national security and safety. Subsequently, in June 2017 the Swedish government announced a decision to reassign a portion of the 700MHz band for mobile broadband use from 1 November 2017.
